The Biological Invasions Research Group (BioInv) is formed by researchers from the Life Sciences Department at the University of Alcalá (UAH). It aims at improving the existing knowledge about the consequences of biological invasions, which are one of the main components of global change and responsible for high biodiversity losses worldwide. The main research line of BioInv focuses on the impacts of exotic species on ecosystem functioning and on the environmental services that ecosystems provide. The researchers at the BioInv have conducted outstanding research at multiple facets of biological invasions. In a context where ecosystem services are threatened by biological invasions there is a need for an active evaluation of sustainable solutions that will drive to scientifically informed decisions.
The main research lines of the Biological Invasions Group include:
The researchers of the BioInv group encompass Researchers and Lecturers of the UDE (Unidad Docente de Ecología within the Life Sciences Department at the UAH) together with postdoctoral and predoctoral ones and researchers from other national centers (i.e. Estación Biológica de Doñana-CSIC and Complutense University). Further, they closely collaborate with researchers from international (University of Amsterdam, Wageninen University, University of Lisbon, University of Concepción and University of Stellenbosch) centers. We form part of several national and international networks including InvNet (Red Temática sobre Invasiones Biológicas) and European Cost Actions. Noteworthy outputs of the group in the last years include publications in Biological Reviews, New Phytologist, Global Change Biology and Ecology among others. Apart from research, the components of the group have an ample experience mentoring BSc, MSc and PhD students in the area of Ecology.
